Why Instagram needs a professional account

To connect Instagram to UP Creator Studio, your Instagram account needs to be a professional account: either Creator or Business. This rule comes from Instagram, not from UP. Switching is free, takes about a minute, and you keep your followers and posts.

Why Instagram asks for this

Instagram decides which accounts other apps can connect to. The only way it lets an app like Creator Studio connect is through its official tools for professional accounts. Instagram retired the older option that worked with personal accounts in December 2024, so every app that connects to Instagram has this same requirement, not just UP.

TikTok and YouTube don't have this rule, so you can connect those accounts as they are.

What changes when you switch

  • Your username, followers, and posts stay exactly as they are.
  • Instagram adds insights that show how your posts are doing.
  • You can switch back to a personal account at any time in Instagram's settings. If you do, Creator Studio loses its connection until you switch again.

How to switch

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the menu, then Account type and tools.
  3. Tap Switch to professional account.
  4. Pick the category that fits you best, then choose Creator. Business works too.
  5. Come back to Creator Studio and connect Instagram again.

Instagram renames its menus from time to time, so the labels in your app may look a little different.

If you tap Connect in Creator Studio while your account is still personal, Instagram will offer to switch it for you on the spot.
